RVing Offroad ... you can't do that!!

Let's see - where to start.  Huge difference in temperature this morning - only 65 Degrees (and only some whining about how cold it was).  Today we left around 0945 and headed west on I-40 and that's just where the adventure started.  Decided to follow route 66 as much as possible today; saw some very cool old towns ... sad to see how run down they've become since I passed through here two years ago.

Well as we followed the GPS on route 66 we came to a dirt road - the gps said it went through so, being a blood relative of Daniel Boone I decided to forge forward ... yep, in an RV.  Turned out to be a great side trip.

Got into Albuquerque around 5pm tonight with enough time to have a race between a rip stick and big wheel and an intense round of mini golf, which I am obliged to mention the girls team won.

Holy Crud; We're Still in Texas!!!!!

2 Days of Driving and we're still in Texas!!!  Left Dallas around 0920 this morning - already 88 degrees.  Saw our first train of the trip - BNSF heading south.  Arrived in Amarillo around 4:30pm and had a great dinner choice .. tacos or chicken and pasta.  Dessert was a little ice cream sandwiches and then to the hay ride!  We're now watching for a storm that may bring 45 knot winds around midnight.  We'll get right to the pictures tonight!!

BTW - JOIN US TOMORROW NIGHT AS WE ... GUESS THAT SMELL!!  Yes - you can join along our third day and try to figure out what the heck is the odor coming from the back of the RV ... maybe for the grand finale will play - was it really the dog?!

Great Rest Stop that had a play ground and museum

Day 1 - Texans arrive in the Big D

Well after a late start ... I couldn't get on the road without washing the exterior of the RV; we headed out the door and northbound!  Around noon we stopped at a Navarro rest stop to eat salami sandwiches, some carrots and while the kids played at the playground .... I got my first vacation nap!  I was awakened up when I realized that a guy pulling a new travel trailer was make a u-turn next to us.  He had pulled into the rest stop the wrong way!!!  Between the swarms of grasshoppers and some frogs taking a mud bath, it was a nice stop.

When we got on 20 west bound, we were slowed to a crawl as a funeral precession was making its way the same direction.

We arrived at the campground around 3pm and hit the pool right away - 105 degrees by the newly installed dash temp gauge!  After some delicious home made tacos, we let the kids rampage the area on big wheels and rip sticks!  Until tomorrow - stay safe!
